Announcing the 2015 Internet Society WSIS Fellows

By Constance Bommelaer de LeusseFormer Vice President, Institutional Relations and Empowerment

As one of the organizations involved in the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) since its inception, the Internet Society is following the 10-year WSIS Review process ( WSIS+10 ) closely and participating to the greatest extent possible, including calling upon the UN to open up the WSIS+10 preparatory process to more participants. In particular, the Internet Society wants to extend the opportunity to its membership by supporting participation in the negotiations leading up to the WSIS+10 High-Level Event in December.

Today, we are pleased to announce the policy fellows selected to participate to the upcoming WSIS+10 Consultations to be held on 19th October in New York.

We were delighted by the high quality level of applications received from chapters and members around the world. After a very competitive process, we were able to identify our top 3 candidates that most clearly fulfilled the outlined criteria:

  • Mr. Osvaldo Larancuent, Dominican Republic
  • Mr. Alejandro Pisanty, Mexico
  • Ms. Alicia Tricas, Spain

We are confident that such a diverse and strong group will play a critical role in promoting the Internet Society’s principles and positions and ultimately in bringing about a WSIS+10 Review process that supports the Internet of opportunity that we believe should be available to everyone.
