About the Internet Society

Together with our global community, the Internet Society extends the Internet’s reach and protects its long-term well-being. Through our work, we help to grow the Internet, make it stronger and shape the Internet of the future.

Two of our focus areas are represented at the Thomson Reuters Foundation Trust Conference 2021:

Encryption

Encryption safeguards the personal security of billions of people and the national security of countries around the world.

In some parts of the world, encryption is under threat, with governments and law enforcement agencies arguing that they need ‘backdoor’ access to everyone’s private communications as a means to fight crime. But efforts to weaken encryption in one place weaken it everywhere, for everyone.

Effective encryption is key to secure online communications for everything. Here at the Internet Society, we use our unique position to help everyone work together for a safe and secure Internet.

Measuring the Internet

To help everyone gain deeper, data-driven insight into the Internet, we’ve launched the Internet Society Pulse platform.

We use the data presented on Pulse to examine Internet trends and tell data-driven stories so that policymakers, researchers, journalists, network operators, civil society groups and others can better understand the health, availability and evolution of the Internet.

On Pulse, we track Internet shutdowns and present data on Internet resilience, enabling technologies, and centralization.
