For more than three decades, the Network and Distributed System Security (NDSS) Symposium has brought together leading cybersecurity researchers, academics, and practitioners from around the world to advance cutting-edge work.
The research they share and debate at the NDSS Symposium helps shape the technologies, systems, and security practices that underpin a safer and more trustworthy Internet.
As the Internet Society works to advance a safer Internet for everyone, the NDSS Symposium plays an important role by bringing together the global security research community to develop the knowledge, innovation, and collaboration necessary to address emerging threats and strengthen the Internet’s security and resilience.
Today, we are pleased to announce an important milestone in the symposium’s history: NDSS Symposium 2027 will take place in Seoul, Republic of Korea, from 22–26 March 2027.
This marks an exciting next chapter for the NDSS Symposium that reflects the globally connected Internet and the global cybersecurity community working to secure it.
A Safe and Globally Connected Internet Requires Global Collaboration
Cybersecurity challenges do not stop at borders. The systems, networks, and infrastructure that underpin the Internet are global by design, and the research community addressing these challenges has become increasingly international over time.
That evolution is reflected in the NDSS Symposium itself.
In 2026, the symposium welcomed 674 participants from 33 countries, continuing a steady trend of growing international engagement. Participation from the Asia-Pacific region alone has increased by more than 60% over the past three years.
Bringing the NDSS Symposium to Seoul, Republic of Korea, strengthens the conference and its global reach of cybersecurity research.
Why Seoul?
Seoul is one of the world’s leading technology and connectivity hubs, with world-class infrastructure, internationally recognized academic institutions, and a vibrant research and innovation ecosystem.
The city is also exceptionally well-positioned to support broader participation from across Asia-Pacific—one of the fastest-growing Internet regions globally.
According to Internet Society Pulse and the International Telecommunication Union’s (ITU’s) Global Connectivity Report 2025, Asia-Pacific continues to see significant growth in Internet adoption, infrastructure development, and digital innovation. As the Internet Society works to advance a safer Internet, it is essential that the researchers, practitioners, and institutions developing the next generation of security solutions can collaborate across borders and bring diverse perspectives to shared challenges.
Bringing the NDSS Symposium to Seoul creates opportunities to deepen collaboration across the global cybersecurity research community at a time when both Internet growth and security innovation are becoming increasingly international.
Hosting the symposium in Asia-Pacific will help broaden participation, strengthen engagement with rapidly expanding research and academic ecosystems, and create new pathways for collaboration between established and emerging researchers.
Importantly, this move strengthens the NDSS Symposium.
Continuing a Tradition of Excellence
Since 1993, the NDSS Symposium has established itself as one of the world’s top four cybersecurity research conferences, known for its rigorous standards and for advancing impactful work across network and distributed systems security.
That commitment remains unchanged.
NDSS Symposium 2027 will continue to bring together leading researchers and practitioners working on some of the most pressing security challenges facing the Internet today—from infrastructure resilience and applied cryptography to emerging threat models and systems security.
This work is central to building a safer Internet. Whether improving the security of critical infrastructure, advancing cryptographic protections, or helping identify and mitigate emerging threats, the research presented at the NDSS Symposium contributes to the security, trust, and reliability that people, businesses, and communities depend on every day.
We cannot achieve a safer Internet through technology alone. It depends on sustained collaboration between researchers, practitioners, and institutions working together to solve shared security challenges.
We are reinforcing the NDSS Symposium’s role as a truly global convening for the cybersecurity research community.
Strengthening Engagement Around the NDSS Symposium
As part of this next chapter for the NDSS Symposium, we are exploring new ways to strengthen engagement across the global community of researchers, practitioners, sponsors, and partners who contribute to NDSS.
As cybersecurity challenges continue to evolve, so too do the opportunities for collaboration, knowledge sharing, and exchange between those advancing security research and those applying it in practice. We are interested in how the NDSS Symposium can further support these connections while continuing to uphold the rigorous technical standards and research excellence that have defined the symposium for more than three decades.
By bringing together diverse perspectives from across the cybersecurity ecosystem, the NDSS Symposium will continue to serve as a leading forum for advancing research, fostering collaboration, and helping to address some of the most pressing security challenges facing the Internet today.
