Internet Society Supports Event to Promote Women in Computing

The Internet Society has entered into an agreement with the Anita Borg Institute (ABI) to help promote a conference aimed at advancing women in computer sciences and engineering. To be held 2-5 October in Minneapolis, USA, the 2013 Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing is expected to attract participants from industry, academia, and government from more than 40 countries.
In exchange for promotional support, ABI will provide the Internet Society with opportunities to raise awareness among the event's predominantly female audience about Internet Leadership programmes, and opportunities to participate in Internet governance and technical work. Internet Society staff and volunteers will operate a booth at the event to share information on the Internet Society and the Internet Engineering Task Force.
The agreement also provides for a discount to Internet Society members interested in attending the event. To save USD 50, simply enter promotion code ISODIS during the online registration process.
The Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing is named after Grace Murray Hopper. She was a computer scientist and United States Navy Rear Admiral. Hopper developed the first compiler for a computer programming language and conceptualized the idea of machine-independent programming languages.
