GII 2012, Co-Published by INSEAD and World Intellectual Property Organization, to be launched at one-day event, 3 July in Geneva
[Washington, D.C. and Geneva, Switzerland ‒ 28 June 2012] ‒ Internet Society President and Chief Executive Officer, Lynn St. Amour, authored a chapter for The Global Innovation Index (GII) 2012 that highlights the Internet as an unprecedented catalyst for innovation and change. The GII, co-published by INSEAD, the leading international business school, and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), a specialized agency of the United Nations, recognizes the role of innovation as a driver of economic growth and prosperity to both developed and emerging economies.
In its fifth edition, the GII is an innovation-based ranking of 141 countries that has evolved into a benchmarking tool to facilitate public-private dialogue, whereby policymakers, business leaders, and other stakeholders can evaluate progress on a continual basis. In 2011, Ms. St. Amour joined the GII Advisory Board, a select group of international practitioners and experts who bring unique knowledge and skills in the realm of innovation.
Ms. St. Amour authored a chapter for the GII 2012, titled “The Internet: An Unprecedented and Unparalleled Platform for Innovation and Change.” The Internet has become integral to business, communication, education, and community building, as well as an essential tool in social life, empowering individuals and communities in ways previously unimagined. These linkages create unparalleled opportunity by facilitating and encouraging creativity and collaboration. This chapter explores how the evolution of the open, global Internet inspires technological, societal, and knowledge innovation.
The launch of the GII 2012 will be held at WIPO headquarters in Geneva on 3 July, 2012. The event will focus on the theme of “Stronger Innovation Linkages for Global Growth,” with an emphasis on the changing geography and best practices for innovation in the context of a prolonged economic crisis.
