Internet Society Opens Application Period for Community Grants Programme

2 March 2009 – The Internet Society (ISOC) is seeking applications for its next round of Internet-related Community Grants Programme. In 2005 the Internet Society (ISOC) launched a grants program for its Chapters & Individual Members as a way to encourage locally-based capacity building and Internet development in technical, educational, or policy fields.  Since then, the Community Grants Programme has promoted ISOC’s mission and goals by supporting nearly 60 projects in all regions of the world, impacting the local communities of end users and regional technologists. Projects are awarded up to a maximum of US$10,000. To encourage sustainability, ISOC requires that at least 25 percent of the total project budget is provided from other sources of funding. All ISOC Chapters and Individual members are encouraged to apply for funding to support their projects which meet the formal criteria. In December 2007, the ISOC Board of Trustees approved a set of longer term, more strategic activities, referred to as the “initiatives”. The three initiatives are Enabling Access, InterNetWorks, and Trust & Identity. In addition to demonstrating consistency with ISOC mission and goals, preference is given to projects that fall within the three Major Strategic Initiatives and the corresponding program areas within each. The deadline for applications is 30 March 2009. Read more on the Community Grants Programme, including criteria and details of how to apply.
