Panel Discussion 1: Strong Encryption and Effective Law Enforcement: Striking the Workable Balance?

This panel will feature a discussion on the intersection of effective law enforcement and strong encryption. Speakers will discuss ideas, challenges, and opportunities, among others, for striking a workable balance between encryption as a critical tool for online privacy&security and prevention, combatting and investigation of crimes online. Five minute interventions by speakers will be followed by a 20 min Q&A session.

Panel Discussion 2: The New Digital Agenda: What is the Future Role for Encryption in the EU?

Recently, encryption has been a priority on EU policymakers’ agenda, with upcoming proposals on Child Sexual Abuse Online, a new Security Union Strategy, and ongoing discussions on ePrivacy and eEvidence – all of which are touching on encryption. This panel will discuss the role of encryption in Europe’s digital future as well as the upcoming trends and challenges that might impact the use of encryption in the EU. Five minute interventions by speakers will be followed by a 20 min Q&A session.
