Internet Society at WSIS Forum 2026

The Internet Society participated in the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Forum 2026 in Geneva, which took place 6-10 July. We believe a strong WSIS process remains essential to the future of Internet governance.

Throughout the week, we promoted the recommendations in our Non-Paper on WSIS+20 Implementation, emphasizing the need for inclusive, measurable implementation roadmaps that can turn commitments into action. Our discussions with governments, UN agencies, civil society, and technical community partners reinforced both the value of this approach and the need for a stronger focus on implementation and accountability.

As a next step, we’ll continue advocating for a reimagined WSIS Forum that is more focused, action-oriented, and better equipped to support meaningful follow-through on WSIS outcomes. A stronger forum can help strengthen the broader WSIS process and reinforce the multistakeholder approach to Internet governance.
