Biography

Rao Naveed Bin Rais received his Ph.D. in Computer Engineering with specialization in Networks and Distributed Systems from University of Nice-Sophia Antipolis, France in 2011. Before that, he completed his MS Research in Networks and Distributed Systems from the same university in 2007 and BE in Computer Systems from National University of Science & Technology, Pakistan in 2002. Since 2011, he is working as an academic and currently serving as Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Ajman University, UAE.

He has 15+ years of Academic, Research and Industrial R&D experience with more than 50 publications, to date. He has supervised many Ph.D. theses and has successfully completed a number of research projects as Principal Investigator (PI). His research interests and technical expertise include Communication Network Protocols and Architectures, Next-Generation Communication Networks, Information-Centric and Software-Defined Networks, Machine Learning Algorithms, Cloud Computing, Network Virtualization, and Internet Naming & Addressing issues.

Dr. Rais has been associated with a number of I* organizations for past many years including Internet Society (ISOC), Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), and Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) etc. He has participated in many IETF meetings and has twice received ISOC Fellowship for IETF meeting. He has also been part of many relevant technical workshops organized by ISOC and ICANN, both at regional and global level.

Since 2014, he has been actively involved in ICANN at many different SOs/ACs and has participated in more than 15 ICANN meetings, to date. He has been an active member of recently concluded 2nd Security, Stability and Resilience Review Team (SSR2-RT) for ICANN representing GNSO. He has received ICANN Fellowship a number of times and has been one of the pioneer mentors of the ICANN Fellowship Program. Currently, he is serving as Community Mentor for the ICANN Fellowship Program representing RSSAC. He is also an individual member of APRALO, which is a regional At-Large Organization of ICANN At-Large Advisory Committee (ALAC).

Dr. Rais is a member of Internet Society since 2014 and has previously served on the position of the President of ISOC Islamabad Chapter. He has also been actively involved in the development of the Chapter and its activities. He has also served as one of the founding Board Members of Pakistan Network Operators Group (PK-NOG).

He is multilingual and speaks English, Urdu and French.
