By Susannah GrayDirector, Communications

Around the world, our 130 chapters and special interest groups work locally, regionally, and globally to keep the Internet a force for good: open, globally connected, secure, and trustworthy. Each month, we provide a brief overview of just some of the things they have achieved in the previous month.

🇳🇪 Niger Chapter announced the successful official launch of Niger’s first Internet Exchange Point (IXP), a milestone achievement for the country’s digital landscape. This initiative, developed in close partnership with the National Agency for the Information Society (ANSI), marks a significant step towards a more resilient and efficient Internet infrastructure for Niger. The chapter has worked tirelessly over the past two years, organizing training sessions to prepare the local stakeholders for this day–congratulations and thank you for your commitment to growing the Internet!

IXPs create shorter routes for Internet traffic, offering a more affordable alternative to sending local Internet traffic abroad. IXPs also help increase Internet resilience and stability. Find out how we support IXP development around the world.
