Susannah Gray joined the Internet Society in May 2020 as Director, Communications.
She is a strategic communications expert with over 15 years of experience in multi-stakeholder, community-driven communications and PR. Having been part of the Internet ecosystem since 2005, she has a deep understanding of Internet governance, policy development, Internet technologies and the issues affecting the Internet’s end users.
Prior to taking up her role at the Internet Society, Susannah worked for the Number Resource Organization (NRO), the coordinating body for the world’s five Regional Internet Registries (RIRs). From 2013 – 2020 she also ran a consultancy providing strategic communications advice, support and content creation services to clients all over the world, including the European Cultural Foundation (ECF), Edelman PR, ICANN, the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) and the U.N.
From 2014 – 2017, Susannah helped build the Communications, Marketing and PR team at AFRINIC, the RIR for Africa, as a Strategic Communications Advisor. And from 2005 – 2013, she held various roles in the Communications Department at the RIPE NCC, the RIR for Europe, the Middle East and parts of Central Asia.
Susannah firmly believes that the Internet can empower individuals and communities to change their circumstances through open innovation and access to information and has spent much of her career working for organizations that strive to make the world a better place for everyone on – and off – line.
Having been away from her homeland for over half of her life, she considers herself to be a global citizen and embraces the borderless opportunities that the Internet offers.
She is currently based in the Bay Area, California, USA.
