Privacy, please: About 90 tech policy-focused groups have asked Apple to scrap its plans to scan device users’ iCloud photos for evidence of child exploitation, Ars Technica reports. Citing privacy and security concerns, the groups included several from the US, plus groups from the Dominican Republic, Germany, Ghana, Guatemala, Honduras, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Kenya, Mexico, Nepal, the Netherlands, Nigeria, Pakistan, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Senegal, Spain, Tanzania, and the UK.
Back to court: The US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has refiled its antitrust case against Facebook, with the agency alleging that Facebook used anti-competitive acquisitions of Instagram and WhatsApp to increase its monopoly, CNBC says. The FTC also accuses Facebook of unfairly blocking rivals from accessing its application programming interface. A judge had earlier thrown out the FTC’s first attempt.
Porn site bans porn: OnlyFans, a pay site for “content” creators that—apparently—featured a lot of explicit content in its early life, has now banned hardcore porn, the BBC reports. The London-based site will still allow nude photos, but not more explicit content. Some porn creators had reported revenue in the tens of thousands of dollars per month, but that may soon change.
