As a legendary figure in Internet history, Dr. Kleinrock will present his unique perspectives on the birth of the Internet, the formative period during its early days, and its profound impact on the world today.  Professor Kleinrock’s keynote address is scheduled for Monday morning, 23 April 2012, during the Opening Session of the Global INET.

Leonard Kleinrock’s contributions to the Internet began during his days as a graduate student at MIT, where he developed the mathematical theory of packet networks. Following his arrival at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 1963, Dr. Kleinrock became involved in the ARPANET project.  It was in his UCLA laboratory on 29 October 1969 that he directed the first transmission to pass over the Internet.
During his vanguard career, Dr. Kleinrock has authored more than six books and 250 papers, founded corporations, and received countless awards and honors for his significant contributions to science, engineering, and the Internet.

“We are honored to have Professor Kleinrock joining us at the Global INET to help us celebrate the history of the Internet from its earliest roots,” said Walda Roseman, Chief Operating Officer at the Internet Society. “Dr. Kleinrock’s extraordinary influence on the birth and evolution of the Internet makes him an ideal keynote for this exciting event.”

The three-day Global INET will feature thought-provoking keynotes, engaging panel discussions, and networking opportunities with Internet pioneers, industry leaders, Internet game-changers, government representatives, civil society, and next generation leaders who are defining the future of the Internet.  Thought leaders from across the Internet community will collaborate on topics critical to the global Internet’s future, including privacy, net neutrality, IPv6, security, digital content and innovation, and human rights and freedom of expression.
