Leveraging ICTs to Build Information and Knowledge Societies for Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Forum 2018 represents the world’s largest annual gathering of the ‘ICT for development’ community.

The annual WSIS Forum is a global multi-stakeholder platform facilitating the implementation of the WSIS Action Lines for advancing sustainable development. The Forum provides an opportunity for information exchange, knowledge creation and sharing of best practices, while identifying emerging trends and fostering partnerships, taking into account the evolving Information and Knowledge Societies.

Constance Bommelaer de Leusse, Jane Coffin and Joyce Dogniez will be participating and speaking at this event.

Internet Society and Association for Progressive Communications (APC) organized two workshops on Community Networks. In the morning workshop, ‘Community networks: How the unconnected connect themselves‘, representatives from 5 different Community Networks worldwide presented their infrastructure and approaches to show the links between their work and the Sustainable Development Goals. The afternoon workshop, ‘From the Last to First Mile – Community Networks‘ focused on steps that governments, community networks, organizations, and development agencies are taking to partner for regulatory and policy action, changes, and innovative ways to promote new access networks.  This workshop built on the lessons-learned from the field in the morning CN workshop.
