IETF 106

Starting on 16 November, the Internet Engineering Task Force was in Singapore for IETF 106, where around 1,000 engineers discussed open Internet standards and protocols.

The week began on Saturday 16 November, with a Hackathon and Code Sprint. The IETF meeting itself began on Sunday 17 November and went through Friday afternoon, 22 November.

The Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) is the premier Internet standards body, developing open standards through open processes to make the Internet work better. The IETF is a large open international community of network designers, operators, vendors, and researchers concerned with the evolution of the Internet architecture and the smooth operation of the Internet.

The Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) holds face-to-face meetings three times a year in locations around the world.  IETF meetings generally run Saturday through Friday and include technical Working Group sessions as well as a hackathon, IETF Codesprint, newcomers’ training, technical tutorials, and multiple side events.

The Internet Architecture Board (IAB) and the Internet Research Task Force (IRTF) complement the work of the IETF by, respectively, providing long-range technical direction for Internet development and promoting research important to the Internet’s evolution.

The Internet Society is the organizational home of the IETF and supports it with funding, and through programs such as the ISOC Fellowship to the IETF.
