Ethiopia Internet Development Conference 2020

The Ethiopia Internet Development Conference-Ethiopia (EIDC) fellowship programme is designed to offer opportunities to qualified applicants from outside Addis Ababa to attend the Ethiopia Internet Development Conference scheduled for 3 – 5 March, 2020 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The Internet Development Conference is organized by Internet Society with the support from various international and national organizations of the sector and aims at supporting the reform that is going on in the ICT sector in Ethiopia. The objective of the conference is to create awareness amongst policy makers, regulators, businesses, technologists, and potential entrepreneurs about the Internet model, technology and organizations and create the foundation for a robust internet Ecosystem in Ethiopia. 

Fellowship Objectives

The EIDC fellowship programme provides an opportunity to applicants from Ethiopian regional states and Dire Dawa who have demonstrable responsibility and experience in ICT/Internet policy, business and/or technology and who can advance the objectives of the conference by:

  • Sharing experiences on ways to improve the local internet infrastructure and to make better use of the regional and global internet infrastructure.
  • Sharing experiences on current and potential future obstacles for Internet development
  • Promoting awareness on the issues addressed by the conference after their participation
Fellowship Award Package

EIDC fellows will receive partial or full fellowship consisting of;

  • Travel support to and from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Priority will be given for fellows who will be requesting cheaper travel means (bus and train) while also pursuing the objective of broader participation from regions that are far from Addis Ababa.
  • Hotel accommodation for the duration of the event.
  • Small per diem for meals not provided during the workshop.
Fellowship Eligibility

Applicants should be Ethiopian individuals actively engaged in preferably Internet (but at least ICT) policy, business and or technical development. Women are encouraged to apply.

Selection Criteria:
  • Residency in Ethiopia
  • Be actively involved in Internet technology, policy, business and technical matters at the country/region
  • Have a good awareness of the Internet landscape within their country/region
  • Working in the Internet technology space.
  • Women with experience and working on Internet technology are highly encouraged
  • The applicant should be able to demonstrated proof of work done in either of these fields.
