Global Internet Society Chapters Workshop alongside Global INET

“Imagine, Plan, Act!”

The first ever Global Chapters Workshop was held alongside the Internet Society’s 20th Anniversary Global INET celebration in Geneva, Switzerland, on Saturday 21st April and Sunday 22nd April, just prior to the Global INET.

The two-day Global Chapter Leaders Workshop was the first of its kind in Internet Society (ISOC) history. Approximately 120 participants from Chapters all over the world attended the workshop. The title of the workshop was “Imagine, Plan, Act!” with a focus on local action supporting a global mission. The first day was devoted to “Imagine” and was focused on ISOC’s vision and plans for 2012. It included an information exchange among the Chapters to stimulate conversation around the possibilities for local action, drawing on past Chapter experiences and expertise. The second day was devoted to “Plan and Act!” The focus was on more practical Chapter topics and their implementation – the “how to”.  Again participants were encouraged to network and share information with other participants.

The programme of the workshop was designed to take into account that the bulk of the attendees have never been to an ISOC workshop before, and that participation is focused on the “new” Chapter leaders.

The workshop employed three languages: French, Spanish and English (taken into account for the table assignments). Simultaneous translation was available for the plenary style sessions.

ORGANIZATION OF WORKSHOP

There were 13 tables of 10 persons each. Participants were assigned seating among the tables on Day 1 to encourage networking, meeting new people, and exchanging information.

The facilitators were Peter Houstle and Peggy Hoffman, Mariner Management.

TRAVEL FELLOWSHIPS
ISOC made available travel fellowships to attend both, the Global INET and the workshop in Geneva.
