Take Action: Help Shape the Internet’s Future at ITU Plenipotentiary Conference 2026 (PP-26)

The 2026 ITU Plenipotentiary Conference (PP-26), scheduled to take place in November in Doha, Qatar, will help determine the ITU’s strategic direction and priorities for the next four years. Decisions made at PP-26 could have significant implications for the future of the open, globally connected Internet, the multistakeholder model of Internet governance, connectivity initiatives, and emerging technology policy.

Many of the discussions that will ultimately influence outcomes at PP-26 are already taking place at national and regional levels. This creates an important opportunity for the Internet Society community to contribute expertise, share local perspectives, and help ensure that policy decisions support an open, globally connected, secure, and trustworthy Internet.

Join Our Community Open Door Calls

We will be hosting Community Open Door Calls to create a direct connection between local experiences and global advocacy efforts.

These informal, interactive sessions are open to Internet Society Chapters, Organization Members, Individual Members, Alumni, and anyone interested in Internet governance and digital policy developments. During the calls, participants will:

  • Learn about current PP-26 developments and Internet Society advocacy priorities.
  • Share national and regional policy developments.
  • Discuss emerging issues and challenges.
  • Identify opportunities for engagement and collaboration.
  • Help inform Internet Society advocacy strategies with community insights.


Rather than serving solely as a briefing, these calls are designed as a listening and coordination space where community perspectives can help shape our collective approach to PP-26.

Engage with Your National Delegation

Internet Society chapters and members play an important role in connecting local perspectives to global policy discussions. Ahead of PP-26, consider reaching out to your country’s delegation or relevant government officials to understand their positions on Internet-related resolutions.

  • Share Internet Society resources, including the Background Paper and Issues Matrix, with contacts at your Ministry of ICT or equivalent agency.
  • Where possible, coordinate with other chapters and members in your region to amplify shared priorities and concerns (e.g., via regional working groups).
  • If you encounter proposals that could undermine an open, globally connected Internet, notify your Community Engagement Manager so we can better understand developments across regions.

Contribute Technical Expertise

Technical community members can provide valuable insights throughout the PP-26 preparatory process. Consider engaging in relevant ITU Sector Advisory Groups and other preparatory discussions. Help identify and document the potential technical implications of proposals that may affect:

  • The open and interoperable Internet.
  • Open standards development.
  • Internet infrastructure and resilience.
  • The multistakeholder Internet governance ecosystem.


Your expertise can help policymakers better understand how technical decisions may affect users, networks, and the future evolution of the Internet.
