Diplomatic Briefing at UN – Cybersecurity
The Internet Society, alongside ICANN, ITU, and the Permanent Missions of Kenya and Bulgaria, held a diplomatic briefing on 23 July at the UN Headquarters in New York entitled “Demystifying the Internet: Collaborative Security Approaches”, on the sidelines of the first plenary session of the UN Global Mechanism on ICTs in the Context of International Security.
22 diplomats and experts joined the briefing, where we highlighted the importance of ensuring a multistakeholder approach to the Global Mechanism, spotlighting success stories of collaborative approaches to cybersecurity, drawing on the work of the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), Network and Distributed System Security (NDSS) Symposium, Global Encryption Coalition (GEC), and our newly launched Common Good Cyber Fund (CGCF).
This event is one of many shedding light on the expertise and willingness of the wider technical community and other non-governmental stakeholders to meaningfully contribute to and support the development of the Global Mechanism on ICTs.
