Community in Action—June

Around the world, our community works locally, regionally, and globally to keep the Internet a force for good: open, globally connected, secure, and trustworthy. Here is an overview of just some of their activities over the last few weeks.

Internet Resilience

🇵🇷 Puerto Rico Chapter hosted a webinar on “Internet Resilience in the Face of Conflicts and Disasters.” Over 60 people attended the session, which explored principles and best practices for maintaining connectivity during disasters, climate crises, conflicts, and other disruptions, with a focus on resilient infrastructure, preparedness and recovery, and community capacity building.

Online Trust and Safety

🇨🇦 Canada Ontario Chapter’s Seniors and Fraud podcast series airs weekly, and aims to provide older adults with information to help them understand the level of personal threats from online predators.

🇹🇩 Chad Chapter partnered with ChadHubDigit to organize an awareness conference on cyber harassment in the AI era. The initiative empowered participants, especially women, with knowledge and tools to better protect themselves and foster a safer Internet experience.

🇳🇪 Niger Chapter hosted a conference on personal data protection in the digital age in partnership with the Niamey Institute of Technology. The conference focused on challenges for e‑services in Niger, making a key contribution to national dialogue on digital trust and policy. The chapter also held a digital capacity-building program for 35 young entrepreneurs together with Kulawar Jama’a. The training focused on practical skills, including office tools, artificial intelligence, digital marketing, cybersecurity, and collaborative tools to help young people use the Internet to strengthen their economic opportunities.

🇾🇪 Yemen Chapter held an online awareness webinar entitled “Parental Control on the Internet,” focused on helping families better protect children and adolescents online. The session covered key digital risks, parental control tools, safe communication with children, and the balance between online safety and privacy. It targeted parents, specialists, and others interested in child protection in digital spaces.

Connectivity

🇵🇭 Philippines Chapter was selected by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) as one of its “Bayani sa Last Mile” (last-mile hero) awardees, in recognition of their significant contributions and continued support to DICT initiatives, projects, and programs over the past 10 years.

Policy

🇮🇳 India Bengaluru Chapter launched the Professional Certificate Program in Internet Governance and Digital Policy in collaboration with the India Internet Research Organisation. The online program is designed for students and young professionals who are interested in exploring the evolving landscape of Internet governance and digital transformation.

Internet Governance

🇸🇳 Senegal Chapter was one of the organizers of the 2026 Forum on Internet Governance, Peering, and Digital Sovereignty (SNFIG–SNPIF) in Dakar, bringing stakeholders together for two days of exchange on Internet governance, peering and interconnection, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data sovereignty, and digital inclusion. This highlights the chapter’s role in advancing inclusive multistakeholder dialogue, strengthening local Internet infrastructure and technical capacity, and supporting Senegal’s broader digital sovereignty and digital development priorities.

🇹🇬 Togo Chapter held the third edition of its National School on Internet Governance in Lomé, supporting the development of future digital policy and Internet governance leaders. The initiative reflects the chapter’s continued commitment to building local capacity and contributing more actively to national and global digital governance discussions.

General

🇧🇧 Barbados, 🇭🇹 Haiti, 🇯🇲 Jamaica, 🇻🇨 St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and 🇹🇹 Trinidad and Tobago Chapters attended a coordination meeting with the Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU). The call focused on the importance of regional collaboration over country-by-country efforts and opportunities. The meeting reinforced the critical role that collaboration plays in advancing Internet development, digital resilience, community connectivity, and Internet governance across the Caribbean.

🇨🇦 Canada Chapter hosted a screening of the documentary The Women in Security, which highlights the experiences and contributions of women working at the forefront of cybersecurity, intelligence, and protective services. Bringing together senior leaders from government, cybersecurity, defense, intelligence, and industry, the event sparked thoughtful discussion on the leadership, resilience, and emerging threats shaping Canada’s security future, while underscoring the importance of developing the next generation of security leaders.

🇩🇪 Germany, 🇷🇸 Serbia, 🇨🇭 Switzerland, and 🇬🇧 United Kingdom Chapters co-organized a session during the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Forum 2026, entitled “WSIS+20 Follow-Up—From Milestones to Momentum: What Comes Next?”

🇮🇩 Indonesia Jakarta Chapter organized a series of seminars and workshops on the theme “Co-Creating the Future: Humans, Art, and AI.” They also supported members of the Belgium Chapter in engaging with the local government for their cybersecurity research program.

🇮🇱 Israel Chapter marked the 40th anniversary of Israel’s national Internet with a landmark conference that brought together the pioneers who built the Israeli Internet and the leaders shaping its future. Featuring world-renowned speakers, including Internet pioneer Dr. Vint Cerf, Google Vice President Professor Yossi Matias, and Mobileye Founder Professor Amnon Shashua, the event celebrated four decades of innovation while exploring the next era of AI, cybersecurity, digital society, and Internet governance.

🇮🇹 Italy Chapter held an event as part of its celebrations marking 40 years of the Internet in Italy, with experts from academia, industry, and the information and communications technology (ICT) sector attending. Key topics included the governance of artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure security, the evolution of cognitive processes, and the role of digital skills in building an informed and responsible digital citizenship.

🇯🇵 Japan Chapter participated in the Internet Week showcase, focusing on the chapter’s legacy in the local Internet space as they gear up for engagements with the Japan Network Operators Group (NOG) in July.

🇸🇱 Sierra Leone Chapter signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Njala University to advance digital literacy and innovation, strengthening long‑term collaboration with academia in Sierra Leone.
