Polish Network Operators Group meeting – PLNOG

By Jan ŽoržFormer Operational Engagement Programme Manager

The Polish Network Operators Group (PLNOG) is a large network operators community, with somewhere around 600 attendees at each meeting. PLNOG is one of the largest and most successful NOGs for its country size. The two-day event starts with a main session and then splits into multiple tracks, so there is something for everyone. There are also several workshops available to hone some of your technical skills.

The 10th PLNOG Meeting takes place 28 February-1 March in Warsaw, Poland. As in previous years, they have invited several foreign guests as a speakers. Mark Townsley (Cisco Fellow) is the keynote speaker, and the agenda has many other distinguished experts from around the world. I’m also on the agenda, speaking during the main session on the first day about “Best Current Operational Practices – Efforts from the Internet Society.”

I’ll be talking about our efforts to address three main questions:

  • How do we gather input from the global operator community and feed it into the IETF process?
  • How do we encourage operators to participate in the standardization process, including reading the IETF Best Current Practices RFCs?
  • How do we gather best current operational practices from operators who have deployed new technologies, and how do we share them with the rest of the global community?

I’d like to thank the organiser of PLNOG for inviting us and for the honor to speak in the main session to the whole PLNOG audience before it splits to tracks. Registration is open now – the event is operated by a nonprofit, but there is a small attendance fee.

If you’ll be in Poland at the end of February, I hope you can join me at PLNOG!
