Connectivity is essential, but it’s not enough on its own. Too many people experience safety threats as a routine part of their online life.
Misinformation, online scams, cybersecurity threats, privacy violations, attacks on encryption, and insecure technologies all contribute to an uncertain digital landscape. But we believe that everyone deserves a safe Internet.
That’s why we started our Safer Internet Initiative—a global, multi-year strategy that fights back against online threats and leverages what we know works: targeted funding, training, and advocacy.

What the Safer Internet Initiative Will Support
The Safer Internet Initiative is designed to strengthen the long-term sustainability of online trust and safety work worldwide. It is our way of achieving the goal of ensuring that people everywhere have a safe, secure, and trustworthy Internet experience. The initiative will support various efforts, including those targeting:
Online safety education, training, and practical tools that help people make informed decisions and protect themselves.
A multilingual, publicly accessible Trust and Safety Hub with vetted resources (launching in 2026).
Advocacy for policies, technical standards, and commercial practices that prioritize user safety, security, and privacy.
Funding for organizations that maintain critical infrastructure, defend high-risk communities, and strengthen digital resilience.
Funding and capacity building for community-based projects implemented by grantees and Internet Society chapters to advance online safety locally.
