Community Week 2023

Community Week 2023 Terms and Conditions of Attendance and Participation

By registering for this event, I agree to the Internet Society Community Week Event Terms and Conditions of attendance and participation: Terms and Conditions of Attendance.

These are the terms and conditions (the “Agreement”) governing your participation in the Internet Society Community Week virtual event (the “Community Week Event”). By registering for the Community Week Event, you agree to these terms, which form a binding legal contract between the Community Week Event owner and host, Internet Society (“ISOC” or “Owner and Organizer”) and the registered participant (“you” or “Participant”). If you are registering on behalf of another individual, it is your responsibility to ensure the person participating is aware of these terms and accepts them. By completing the registration on behalf of another individual you are warranting that you have made the Participant aware of these terms and that they have accepted these terms.

1 Participant Requirements

1.1 Access. Your registration entitles you to access the Community Week Event for which you have registered. Any and all other costs associated with your attendance shall be borne solely by you, and the Community Week Event shall have no liability for such costs.

1.2 Use of Likeness. By participating in the Community Week Event, you acknowledge and agree to grant the Organizer the right to record, film, live stream, photograph, or capture your likeness at the Community Week Event in any media now available or hereafter developed and to distribute, broadcast, use, or otherwise globally to disseminate, in perpetuity, such media without any further approval from you or any payment to you. This grant to the Organizer includes, but is not limited to, the right to edit such media, the right to use the media alone or together with other information, and the right to allow others to use or disseminate the media.

2 Prohibited Conduct

2.1 Disruptive Conduct. You acknowledge and agree that the Organizer reserves the right to remove you from the Community Week Event if the Organizer, in its sole discretion, determines that your participation or behavior create a disruption or hinder the Community Week Event or the enjoyment of the Community Week Event content by other attendees. (Read the Code of Conduct.)

3 Intellectual Property

3.1 All intellectual property rights in and to the Community Week Event, the Community Week Event content, and all materials distributed at or in connection with the Community Week Event are owned by ISOC, or the Community Week Event sponsors or speakers presenting at the Community Week Event. You may not use or reproduce or allow anyone to use or reproduce any trademarks or other trade names appearing at the Community Week Event, in any Community Week Event content or in any materials distributed at or in connection with the Community Week Event for any reason without the prior written permission of ISOC.

3.2 For the avoidance of doubt, nothing in this Agreement shall be deemed to vest in you any legal or beneficial right in or to any trademarks or other intellectual property rights owned or used under license by ISOC or any of its affiliates; nor does this Agreement grant to you any right or license to any other intellectual property rights of ISOC or its affiliates, all of which shall at all times remain the exclusive property of ISOC and its affiliates.

4 Disclaimer of Warranties, Limitation of Liability

4.1 ISOC gives no warranties in respect of any aspect of the Community Week Event or any materials related thereto or offered at the Community Week Event and, to the fullest extent possible under the laws governing this Agreement, disclaims all implied warranties, including but not limited to warranties of fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, timeliness, and merchantability. The Community Week Event is provided on an “as-is” basis. The views, opinions, and positions expressed by the speakers, attendees, or sponsors at the Community Week Event are theirs alone and do not necessarily reflect the views, opinions, or positions of the Organizer or any staff thereof. Organizer makes no representations as to accuracy, completeness, timeliness, suitability, or validity of any information presented by speakers, attendees, or sponsors at the Community Week Event and will not be liable for any errors, omissions, or delays in this information or any losses, injuries, or damages arising from its display or use.

4.2 Except as required by law, neither Organizer nor its affiliates shall be liable for any direct, indirect, special, incidental, or consequential costs, damages or losses arising directly or indirectly from the Community Week Event or other aspect related thereto or in connection with this Agreement.

In addition to this Agreement, if you are a guest speaker at the Community Week Event, you agree to the following Speaker License and Release:

Thank you for agreeing to participate in the Community Week Event as a speaker. This Speaker License and Release (“Release”) gives ISOC permission to record your presentation and to make it available on our website and in other media. The Release covers all audio, visual, and written materials submitted in connection with your presentation at the Community Week Event.

You and ISOC hereby agree as follows:

  1. You consent to ISOC photographing, recording, streaming, and filming your presentation, directly or through third parties.
  2. You grant ISOC a worldwide non-exclusive and irrevocable unlimited license (“License”), with the right to sublicense, to use your Work for all reasonable purposes related to the Community Week Event. The Work includes your presentation at the meeting, your image and voice, your name and position, any biographical information you submit, and any other material(s) you provide to ISOC or Community Week Event attendees in print or electronic format, whether in advance, during, or after the Community Week Event in connection with your participation as a speaker.
  3. You represent and warrant that you are either the author of the entirety of your Work or in possession of all rights to your Work, and that your Work does not infringe on, misappropriate or violate the intellectual property, privacy or other rights of others, and that you have full power and authority to submit the Work and to grant this License to ISOC.  You agree to indemnify and hold ISOC harmless against any claims by other parties alleging that your granting of this License in any way infringes, misappropriates or violates such parties’ rights to any or all of the Work.
  4. Because you are a speaker at the Community Week Event, ISOC will collect certain personal data about you. For example, we collect your name, contact information, photo, video, and other information you provide to us for the purpose of attending and presenting at the Community Week Event. We will collect, disclose and use the personal data for purposes related to our hosting and promotion of the Community Week Event.  We will process your personal data in accordance with ISOC’s Privacy Statement.

Thank you for your contribution to ISOC’s Community Week Event.
