Baoping Yan


Dr. Baoping Yan is the General Director of the Computer Network Information Center (CNIC) and the Office of Informatization Leading Group at the Chinese Acal demy of Sciences (CAS).

Dr. Yan got her bachelor degree in computing mathamatic from Xi'an Jiaotong University and her master degree in computer network from Institute of Computing Technology of CAS. She has a Ph.D. in System Engineering from Xi'an Jiaotong University, and was a post-doctor at Naotional R&D Center for Intelligent Computer of CAS. Dr. Yan worked and serviced at the Institute of Computing Technology, CAS and Dawning Company as a researcher and vice president before 1997 and was redeployed as the director of Computer Network Information Center of CAS up to now.

Dr. Yan has long been engaged in the R&D and construction of computer network system engineering, Internet technologies, large-scale scientific database technologies and applications. She jointed and took charge some national research projects and engineering programs for the next generation Internet and relate application systems based IT. She is now taking charge of the planning and implementation of CAS' Informatization Program in 10th Five-Year planning (2002-2005) and the planning of CAS' Informatization in the next five years (2006-2010). Now her main research works focus on the e-Science environmen tCyber infrastructure), grid technology and high-end application and technology . She has published over 60 research papers and graduated 50 Master and Ph.D. students and got several national awards.

She also serves as the deputy director for both the CODATA Chinese Committee and the Steering Committee for Scientific Database of CAS. And she is also a trustee of Chinese ISOC Council, the Recent years she joints and serves in some international organizations or project, e.g. the Chairman of DSAO TP of International COTATA; the AC member of W3C, the member of Steering Committee of PRAGMA (Pacific Ring Application and Grid Middleware Assembly) and the executive member of GLORIAD (Global Ring Network for Advanced Applications Development) service for this international advanced network project.
