Biography

Satish Babu has been a member of the Internet Society since 2009, and is the founding Chair of the Internet Society India Trivandrum Chapter. He has been a member of the ISOC Chapters Advisory Council (ChAC) since 2015 and has been the Secretary of the ChAC Steering Committee during 2018, 2019 and 2020, a role which has given him deep insights into the workings of the Chapters community.

Satish was instrumental in setting up the India School on Internet Governance (inSIG) as an ISOC Chapters’ initiative, bringing together four Indian chapters so as to provide continuity and direction to the initiative. Satish is also the first elected Chair of the Asia-Pacific School on Internet Governance (APSIG). Both inSIG and APSIG contribute significantly to building community capacity within Internet Governance.

Satish is a part of several communities within the Internet Governance realm and outside. He has been part of the ICANN At-Large community since 2013 and is currently the Chair of the Asian, Australasian and Pacific Islands Regional At-Large Organization (APRALO). A long-time member of IEEE, he was appreciated by IEEE for his work during the 2005-2008 period in creating a humanitarian response to the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami. In his role as a member of the global Humanitarian Activities Committee (IEEE HAC) during 2017-2019, he worked with community and volunteer projects around the world.

Satish has a dual background, working for over 15 years with grassroots-level communities as a Development Professional, as well as a programmer, software architect, Open Source advocate and entrepreneur in the IT industry. Satish has worked on the Boards of both for-profit and not-for-profit organizations over the last 20 years, and is at home in diverse, multicultural, multi-time-zone environments. In his day job, he is the co-founder and President of a 20-year old IT Services company with offices in the US, Japan and India.

Satish is a senior community leader, committed to his vision of the Internet as a powerful and universal tool that can liberate and empower individuals and societies. He has strong communication and analytical skills, and considers ethics as fundamental to decision-making.
