New Chapter funding opportunities

New Chapter funding opportunities

17 February 2009 – In response to the survey of Chapter needs launched in 2008, the Internet Society is pleased to be able to announce two new programmes to support Chapter Development in 2009. Both programmes will be launched in April and both will work to support multiple goals: funding support, Chapter membership recruitment and re-invigoration, raising Chapter visibility, and leadership development.

Chapter Events Funding Programme

Every Chapter that meets minimum criteria will be eligible to receive US$2,000 once per year under the Chapter Events Funding Programme. The funding is to be used exclusively for re-invigorating existing Chapter membership or recruiting new members to the Chapter through an event which can be either virtual or in person. The money can be used to pay for costs associated with putting on the event. Through our extended network, ISOC may also be able to help with speakers at events.

Chapter Travel Fellowship Programme

The Chapter Travel Fellowship Programme will be a competitive programme. It is currently being trailed with Chapter delegates in the Latin American and Caribbean region to support attendance at the one-day Chapters workshop in Mexico. It provides for a round trip economy class fare, as well as accommodation and food to support attendance at an event. For those who receive an award, the programme has clear requirements for knowledge transfer back into the Chapter and the local community, as well as between Chapters in the form of future events, seminars and reports. Full details of both programmes will be published in the coming months.
