Biography

David Belson joined the Internet Society in August 2019 as Senior Director of Internet Research and Analysis. He is focused on efforts around Internet measurement, Internet shutdowns, and understanding market trends that impact the growth of the Internet across the globe.

He brings nearly twenty-five years of experience in the Internet infrastructure space, including Content Delivery Networks, DNS, and Web hosting, and has spent over a decade generating thought leadership and earned media coverage based on Internet measurement and monitoring data.

Prior to joining the Internet Society, David was Sr. Director of Internet Research & Analysis at Oracle Dyn, where he drove thought leadership efforts supported by the company’s unique portfolio of Internet intelligence tools and associated data. He joined Oracle Dyn in 2017 after over 18 years at Akamai Technologies, where he was most recently Sr. Director of Industry & Data Intelligence, responsible for data-driven evangelism, including Akamai’s quarterly "State of the Internet" report series, as well as leading competitive intelligence & analysis efforts. From 1995-1999, David was with BBN/GTE Internetworking, where he supported their nascent Web & application hosting businesses.

He also publishes the Internet Disruption Report blog, which provides aggregated coverage of Internet disruptions taking place in countries around the world, including the causes of these disruptions.

David holds a Master of Technical and Professional Writing from Northeastern University in Boston, MA, and two Bachelor’s Degrees (BS in Computer Science, BA in Science, Technology, and Society) from Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ.

David is located in Massachusetts.
