Senior Director, Online Trust and Safety

Biografía

I’m the Senior Director, Online Trust and Safety, at the Internet Society, where I have a focus in 2026 on building our “Online Trust & Safety Hub” as part of our larger Safer Internet initiative. I also participate in multiple technical communities, including the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) and ICANN, and I lead our internal work to build a culture of accessibility within the Internet Society.

As a staff member since 2011, I’ve served in a wide range of roles, including being Chief of Staff to our CEO, managing our websites, documenting Internet shutdowns, and leading projects involving Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites, open standards, IPv6, and DNS security. I serve on multiple industry advisory boards, including the Coalition on Digital Impact (CODI), the Marconi Society Internet Resilience Institute, and Linux International.

Since the mid-1980s I have been working with online communication technologies and helping businesses and organizations understand how to use and participate in these new media. An author of multiple books on networking, security, IPv6, and Linux, I frequently present at industry conferences and events. I have been blogging and writing online for over 25 years and podcasting for over 20 years.

I am a strong advocate for the open Internet focused on helping people understand the changes going on all around us within communication technology and practices.

I speak English, German, and a bit of French. Outside of work, I am often writing online, editing Wikipedia, or live streaming. When not in front of the keyboard, I can usually be found running, hiking, or kayaking—or participating in the sport of curling, something I picked up from living in Canada for five years.
