User Experience (UX) Architect

Biografía

I’m the User Experience (UX) Architect at the Internet Society. I work with the Internet Measurement team, mainly helping to shape the Pulse platform.

I’ve spent much of my professional life as an indie consultant, working with organizations of all sizes, on (almost) every continent, and across all of it, the most valuable thing I’ve learned is that nobody wants any software. That’s why I spend a lot of time talking with and learning from the community, so that our resources and applications help them focus on the work that really matters: building and defending a resilient Internet for everyone.

Everything in my career has been shaped by my love of great stories. Before UX, I worked in media and journalism, and I especially love longform narrative audio.

I also have a background in historical and contemporary archaeology, and in addition to my work here, I’m completing a PhD on the subsea fiber cable network, particularly in the Baltic Sea region. I’m interested in the material and social aspects of our communications networks in the present, as well as in documenting and analyzing their histories.

If you catch me when I’m in design discovery mode, you might end up sorting cards in one of my digital whiteboards. If I’m just back from fieldwork or I’ve been writing, you could be cornered by cable lore.

Outside work, you’ll find me with my partner, coaxing tomato seedlings in our garden, walking my little scribble of a street dog, playing board games with my young daughter, showing up early for a flea market, or on a family road trip.

I’m originally from the US, spent 15 years studying and working in Ireland, and now live in Sweden.
