Biographie

John Dada has served as a volunteer CEO and later as Chairman of Board of Fantsuam Foundation (FF). He has also served on the faculty at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria before leaving for the UK as Research Fellow at the University of Leeds.

John Dada was also trained as a nurse in the UK and was chairperson of the African Technical Advisory Committee (ATAC) at the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa. He received the Meritorious Award of University of Queensland, Australia, and was nominated a CNN Hero in 2010. His services in Fantsuam Foundation has revolved around developing programs that address the Mission of Fantsuam Foundation which is to eliminate poverty and disadvantage through integrated development programs. Early on, in 1996, ICT was recognized as a cross-cutting program that will facilitate the achievement of the Fantsuam vision as one of the earliest promoters of ICT for Development at a time when official recognition of ICTs was still lacking in northern Nigeria. FF installed the first satellite internet service for rural northern Nigeria, in 1997, when the Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN) was the only available equipment for rural connectivity. Fantsuam Foundation was keen to ensure gender equity in access to ICT knowledge and skills, and its efforts earned it the first Hafkin Africa Prize in 2001. The CEO was also awarded First Woman ICT Entrepreneur in Nigeria in 2012.

In 2010, John Dada served as chair of the Nigerian team that developed a framework document for the development of a Broadband Policy for Nigeria. In 2005, FF was licensed to provide Cisco Networking Training and also provided a beginners’ class of a 5-week certificate course followed by a more detailed 12-week Diploma training which qualifies the candidates to undertake the IT Essentials Course. Between 2005 and 2018, the Fantsuam computer training services had trained over 5,000 students. Most of the business centers in Kafanchan are owned or managed by students who graduated from Fantsuam ZittNet Academy. ZittNet also offers ICT training and a Computer Based Test Centre for the pre-University Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMBexaminations in Nigeria, and hosts the Kafanchan Google Developers Group and Kafanchan Co-Working space. Fantsuam established the first Community Wireless Network in northern Nigeria in May 2006 and is a founding member of the Summit on Community Networks in Africa.

La plupart des centres d'affaires de Kafanchan sont détenus ou gérés par d'anciens diplômés de la ZittNet Academy de Fantsuam. ZittNet propose également des formations aux TIC ainsi qu'un centre de test par ordinateur pour les examens pré-universitaires nigérians du Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB) et héberge le Groupe de développeurs Google de Kafanchan et l'espace de travail partagé de Kafanchan. Fantsuam a mis en place le premier réseau communautaire sans fil du nord du Nigéria en mai 2006, et est l'un des membres fondateurs du Sommet sur les réseaux communautaires en Afrique.
