Shaping the Internet: Internet Society Next Generation Leaders in Action at the African Internet Summit and EuroDIG 2015

By Toral CowiesonFormer Head, Strategy & Impact Measurement

As many know, the Internet Society has a deep background in identifying and supporting next generation policy, technology, academic, and business leaders.

Here are highlights of some of ISOC’s Next Generation Leaders at last week’s African Internet Summit (AIS) in Tunis, Tunisia and EuroDIG in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Luca Belli (Italy), ISOC Ambassador to the Internet Governance Forum (IGF), was a key contributor on a draft paper on Net Neutrality as a lead up to EuroDIG. Luca is currently a researcher at the Center for Technology & Society Society, FGV in Brazil.

Matthieu Camus (France), just came to EuroDIG from the highly successful French IGF, which attracted more than 350 people. Matthieu is Vice Chair of the French Chapter and was an eLearning participant in the French online Internet Governance course in 2011.

Towela Nyirenda-Jere (Malawi), is the co-author of the recently launched “Internet Development & Governance in Africa” report. A former Ambassador to IGF, Towela is now a programme manager at the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD).

Mukom Akong Tamon (Cameroon), is the 2015 recipient of the Young Professional National Information & Infrastructure Service Award. A former Fellow to the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), Mukom is head of capacity building for AFRNIC, the African regional registry for Internet numbers.

Sorina Teleanu (Romania), was the lead organiser for the South Eastern European Dialogue on Internet Governance ( SEEDIG). Sorina works with the Parliament of Romania and was an ISOC Ambassador to IGF.

Please join me in congratulating and thanking these next generation leaders for their contributions to amplifying our shared passions and work! It is truly rewarding to hear their collective voices as they help shape our future Internet. Their shared commitment, passion, and contributions are inspiring.
