About Internet Society 31 January 2014

Thank You Lynn St. Amour

In a recent Resolution, the Internet Society (ISOC) Board of Trustees offered its ‘heartfelt thanks’ to outgoing CEO Lynn St. Amour for her tireless work for the organization and her service over the past 15 years. The Resolution comes as January 31, 2014 marks Ms. St. Amour’s last official day with the Internet Society. Lynn St. Amour joined the Internet Society in 1998 as the Executive Director of its Europe, Middle East, and Africa division, was promoted to be ISOC’s global Executive Director and COO in 1999 and then advanced to its President and CEO in 2001. The Resolution recognized that Lynn’s leadership and efforts over the years have established a stable financial foundation for the Internet Society by expanding organizational memberships, establishing the Public Interest Registry and growing the organization’s global footprint. Ms. St. Amour also helped establish the Internet Society as the organizational and financial home of the IETF. “Her leadership and efforts have established the Internet Society as the preeminent voice and champion for an open and evolving Internet,” noted Board Chairman Bob Hinden. “She is a valuable member of the ISOC global community, and her many contributions will continue to benefit the Internet Society for years to come.”

No words…
Submitted by Bernard Aboba on 3 February 2014 – 9:42pm It is hard to find words to express all that you have done for the Internet community and the IETF in particiular. For all these years, you have been a constant force supporting the development of the Internet. On your watch, the Internet has grown from a fledgling to a force for global economic growth, and the ISOC and IETF have grown and matured along with it. While today this transition seems inevitable, there were many challenges along the way that you were instrumental in navigating Like a model parent of a teenager, you’ve been patient, nurturing and supportive, even when those you worked with have not been as grateful for your help as they should have been. So here’s to you, Lynn — you’ve been a wonderful partner and co-worker, truly a pleasure to work with. Best wishes in all your future endeavors!

Submitted by Vint Cerf on 3 February 2014 – 10:07pm Dear Lynn, The Internet Society of 2014 is light years away from the limited and, dare I say, somewhat anemic Internet Society of 1999 and it is thanks to your leadership, vision and persistence that this is so. You brought in talent and a regular source of support through PIR. You stood up for the freedom of the Net and never wavered from our motto: The Internet is for Everyone. You have made many friends in the Internet community and justly so. I hope this next phase of your life and career will prove to be as satisfying as have the last 15 years. Respect!! vint

Submitted by Jeff Jaffe on 3 February 2014 – 10:44pm Lynn, the Open Internet that we enjoy today exists in large part due to your vision, collaboration, and follow-through. When I joined W3C four years ago and had an opportunity to work closely with you, I learned this as I had never understood before. The vision is your total commitment to foundational ideals, openness, multi-stakeholder involvement, and Stewardship of the Internet The collaboration is not only that you talk about collaboration – but that you personify collaboration in the way you work, your support for your colleagues, and your support of partner organizations such as W3C. Follow-through is the hardest of all working with disparate organizations on a Global level. The fact that we can count on you has been a key ingredient to your success. Best wishes for the future.
