The device allows the schools to access educational resources when they don\u2019t have an Internet connection. All the data is stored in the device itself, with only a power supply needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Refresher course: <\/strong>Earlier this year, the Paraguay Chapter <a href=\"https:\/\/www.isocfoundation.org\/story\/access-to-quality-education-in-paraguay\/\">helped set up improved Internet access<\/a> and an electronics lab at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ctnasuncion.edu.py\/\">Colegio T\u00e9cnico Nacional<\/a>, a secondary school in Asunci\u00f3n. The equipment at the 1,500-student technical school had become obsolete, and many classrooms lacked an Internet connection and modern computers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Student governance:<\/strong> Sticking with our focus on education, the <a href=\"https:\/\/isoc.bj\/seance-dechange-et-de-sensibilisation-autour-disoc-benin-et-sur-la-gouvernance-dinternet-avec-les-etudiants-de-linsti-ex-iut-de-lokossa\/#.XYDxwyhKhPZ\">Benin Chapter hosted students<\/a> from the National Institute of Technical and Industrial Sciences of Lokossa earlier this year to talk about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.internetsociety.org\/fr\/issues\/gouvernance-internet\/\">Internet Governance<\/a> issues. Chapter members talked to the students about ways to take care of the Internet and how to pay attention to its development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Internet for everyone:<\/strong> The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.isoc.org.il\/public-action\/community-and-society\/the-digital-divide-of-arab-society-in-israel\">Israel Chapter is focused<\/a> on ways to bring access to more Arab residents. \u201cThe Israeli Internet Association sees a narrowing of the digital divide between Arab society in Israel and Jewish society, and in particular the expansion of the accessibility of individuals in the Arab society to the Internet and their ability to use it, as a powerful lever for the rapid socio-economic advancement of the individual and Arab society in Israel, to contribute to reducing the gaps,\u201d the Chapter says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Exchange rates:<\/strong> The Chad Chapter <a href=\"https:\/\/isoc.td\/news\/atelier-de-la-mise-en-place-et-de-gestion-dun-point-dechange-internet-au-tchad-tchadix\/\">recently hosted an event<\/a> to discuss the possible operation of an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.internetsociety.org\/issues\/ixps\/\">Internet Exchange Point<\/a> in the country. An exchange point would allow the direct interconnection of networks, rather than through one or more third-party networks outside of Chad.&nbsp;Direct interconnection would lower costs and latency, while increasing bandwidth, the Chapter says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Encryption, please: <\/strong>Members of the <a href=\"https:\/\/isoc-e.org\/a-joint-call-to-world-leaders-for-a-secure-and-trusted-digital-economy\/\">U.K. Chapter recently joined the Internet Society to call on<\/a> world leaders to support a secure and trusted digital economy for everyone by backing strong <a href=\"https:\/\/www.internetsociety.org\/fr\/issues\/cryptage\/\">encryption<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.g7openletter.org\/index.html\">The Chapter signed a letter<\/a> responding to calls from some countries for encryption backdoors for law enforcement agencies. \u201cDigital security is not optional,\u201d the letter said. \u201cIt is the foundation of our connected economies and societies.
