This morning Sally Shipman Wentworth, our Vice President of Global Policy Development, will be speaking on a panel sponsored by The Media Institute on the topic of “Net Vitality: Identifying the Top-Tier Global Broadband Internet Leaders“. The event is happening from 9:00-11:00am US EDT at the National Press Club in Washington, DC.  The panel discussion follows the release of this “Net Vitality” report authored by  Stuart N. Brotman. The panelists include:

  • Robert M. McDowell, Partner at Wiley Rein LLP;
  • Andy Haire, Chairman of the U.S. Chapter of the International Institute of Communications;
  • Sally Shipman Wentworth, Vice President of Global Policy Development at the Internet Society

As noted in The Media Institute’s announcement:

At the event, Stuart N. Brotman will release his new paper, Net Vitality: Identifying the Top-Tier Global Broadband Internet Ecosystem Leaders, and present highlights from the study. Based on five years of research, his Net Vitality Index is the first-ever composite analysis of the global broadband Internetecosystem, viewed in a country-comparative context.

Following his presentation, an expert panel will discuss the role governments can play in shaping the goals of Net Vitality.  For instance, the FCC’s recent Open Internet order is based on common carrier principles to underscore “Net Neutrality”; this new research contrasts that approach with a broader set of policies, termed Net Vitality, to support a truly Wide Open Internet in the United States and around the world.

There is no charge to attend. The event is  in the Edward R. Murrow Room of the National Press Club at 529 14th St., N.W., 13th Floor, in Washington, DC. The presentation and panel begin at 9:30am.  We are not aware of any live stream or webcast at the current time.

More information about the report, the event and the background of Stuart Brotman can be found on The Media Institute’s event page.

UPDATE: The full Net Vitality report is now available for download.
