The application is to be submitted via the Internet Society website. There is no limit to the number of project proposals that may be submitted.
Applications should be in English, but French or Spanish will be accepted if English is not possible.
Any one project may be eligible for an award of up to US$10,000.
Payments are made in USD. Awardees must bear fluctuations in exchange rates over the course of the project life.
Grants will not be made to cover individual research such as PhD theses or dissertations.
The Internet Society will not fund the entire cost of the project. At least 25% of the total budget for the project must be contributed from other sources. This contribution can include cash contributions or in-kind donations
In-kind contributions from other sources of support will be accepted; in-kind contributions from the applicant will not.
Previous Community Grants recipients awarded as Individual Members (instead of a Chapter award) may not have more than one the Internet Society-funded project open at one time. In order for a current application from an Individual Member to be considered, any previous non-Chapter projects must be completed in full with appropriate reporting submitted.
Current Chapter applicants who are previous Community Grants award recipients and currently have a project underway must have met all financial and reporting requirements for that past award. Otherwise, the current Chapter application will not be considered.
The project may not be a commercial endeavor subject to taxation.
The project leader(s) must agree to share the knowledge, experience and outcomes with the Internet Society community at large and must indicate how it plans to do so.
The project leader(s) and participants must agree to give the Internet Society credit as follows when making public statements about the project - "This project was funded in part by a grant from the Internet Society."
Incomplete applications will be rejected.
Only those projects approved by the Committee will be funded.
The Committee will be guided by which project proposals are in the best interests of the overall the Internet Society community and preference will be given to project proposals consistent with expressed strategic priorities made by the Board for that year. Please review the criteria for more information.
The Committee need not expend all available funds if it finds insufficient project proposals to do so in accordance with the established criteria.
When a fund is allocated to a project, it must be used within 24 months of the award notification.
