The World Bank infoDev Global Forum is a biennial event bringing together a global community of entrepreneurs, business incubator managers, policymakers and financiers for several days of intensive knowledge-sharing and networking. Internet Society Fellows take part in activities across the Forum agenda.
The World Bank infoDev Fellowship was added to the NGL programme for the first time in 2011, increasing opportunities to build skills and share experiences related to Internet business development.
About the World Bank infoDev Global Forum on Innovation and Technology Entrepreneurship
infoDev is a global partnership programme within the World Bank Group which works at the intersection of innovation, technology, and entrepreneurship to create opportunities for inclusive growth, job creation, and poverty reduction.
The Global Forum on Innovation and Technology Entrepreneurship is infoDev’s biennial flagship event convening the global innovation and entrepreneurship community to exchange know-how, establish partnerships and develop innovative approaches. It attracts hundreds of attendees, business incubator managers, policy-makers, SMEs, financiers and development agencies from all continents.
In 2011, the Global Forum focused on the themes of Mobile Applications, Agri-business and Clean Technologies.
The Fellowship Award
World Bank infoDev Fellows receive the following assistance:
- a round-trip, economy class airline ticket to attend the meeting
- hotel accommodation for the duration of the meeting
- a stipend to offset incidental expenses
- a certificate of participation
Expectations for the Fellows to the World Bank infoDev
Fellows to the World Bank infoDev are expected to:
- prepare in advance of the meeting
- participate in the meeting agenda as required
- share the experience and knowledge gained at the Global Forum with their local communities when they return home (including writing a report on the activities)
- participate in the NGL programme participant network
- assist with administrative aspects of the programme, including completion of a follow-up survey
When are the Fellowships available?
World Bank infoDev Fellowships are available for each biennial World Bank infoDev Global Forum (generally held in May or June).
Who should apply?
World Bank infoDev Fellowships are for young Internet Society members (aged 20-40) who have a strong interest in the issues and themes of the World Bank infoDev Global Forum.
Selection criteria
Selection for the Fellowships is competitive. All applicants must be:
- between the ages of 20 and 40
- a member of the Internet Society
- able to present a strong motivation for attending the World Bank infoDev Fellowships
- able to demonstrate interest and expertise in issues on the World Bank infoDev Fellowships
- able to demonstrate experience participating in Internet governance discussions at the international level and in multi-cultural environments
The selection committee will also attempt to achieve professional, geographical, and gender diversity in the overall selections.
