Salanieta Tamanikaiwaimaro, better known as “Sala”, is in Fiji. She is a trained lawyer/attorney and admitted to practice in the High Court in Fiji. She held previous roles and responsibilities within a law firm, regulator of the Securities market, regional policy and advisory body within the Pacific, a telecommunications company and an internet service provider.

She is also active within Internet Governance circles because she believes the Internet is a powerful catalyst for growth and development.
She is currently one of two coordinators of the Civil Society Internet Governance Caucus and a member of the Steering Committee of the Dynamic Coalition on the Internet of Things. She is also in the At Large Advisory Committee which advises the ICANN Board of individual internet users’ interests. She is also heavily involved in outreach, capacity building initiatives where she is constantly looking for means to empower people from all walks of life into policy immersion so that there is meaningful participation into global policy processes.
Growing up in a developing country has caused me to appreciate the comparative lessons to be gleaned from sharing lessons and engaging in informative collaboration. She is passionate about Policy developments that contribute to access, openness, security etc. I believe that if South Korea can climb out of poverty to be ranked as Number 1 in the ICT Development Index (IDI) that developing countries can also follow suit and that the discussions forums that the Internet Society Chapters create are enabling environments for germinating growth, building teams, increasing collaboration and shared insight for an accelerated development.
