About the Position
This position is based in the Geneva, Switzerland office of the Internet Society. Reporting to the Senior Director of Membership & Services, the Senior Manager is responsible for execution of operations and programs providing services to and facilitating engagement with representatives from organization (org) members, partners and sponsors as well as oversight for the supporting administration. The objective of the position is to build and maintain personalized relationships and regular communication with org member contacts to:
- Ensure a rich understanding and use of the benefits and engagement value of the relationship;
- Expand the number of people from each organization involved in the relationship and member engagement activities;
- Maximize both the amount of financial support and the variety of funding targets across which support is distributed
The Senior Manager is a key player in managing the global portfolio of organization members. As part of the strategy of maximizing time zone coverage, the Geneva location will allow him/her to provide organisation member relationship development in Europe and Asia. Duties include contributing to the development of relationship planning and leading the execution of the plans in the assigned region(s).
The ideal candidate will be a senior-level professional who is well organized, with a background in one or more of donor/customer/client services, membership management, revenue generation, and/or marketing in a non-profit organization or association. The position requires a self-starter who can work both independently and collaboratively as part of the larger Membership and Services and Resource Development (revenue) team.
Responsibilities
- As an integral contributor to the revenue generation strategy, manage existing relationships to secure increases in membership level and commitment to other funding targets and projects such as sponsorships and corporate partnerships.
- Work with the Membership Programme Coordinator to ensure the effective management of the monthly membership renewal process. This includes as necessary the follow-up on outstanding invoices.
- Develop individualized organization member profiles and activity plans which include org charts, key staff members, org member process workflow, budget cycle, strategic goals and objectives, and other member defining elements in order to assure an individualized approach to value delivery
- Contribute to the design and implementation of strategic, individualized member management plans that develop each organization member to its full potential for funding, engagement in and contribution to Internet Society’s missions and goals.
- Serve as the membership contact point responsible for the daily stewardship and development of relationships within defined segments of the organizational membership.
- Teaming with the Director for Membership and Services, engage the Internet Society’s Communications team to assist with the design and maintenance of a comprehensive, regularly evolving body of member-centric marketing pieces and tools (online, print, etc.) to communicate and deliver value, facilitate engagement and otherwise contribute to team goals and objectives. This includes presentations, brochures, web content, surveys, etc.
- Work closely with the Resource Development team to identify, build and follow-up on organizational members, donors, sponsors, as multi-year partnerships are built.
- Work closely with the Membership Programme Coordinator to ensure prompt and full recognition of members and sponsors online and in ISOC materials; ensure the availability and accuracy of all membership and sponsorship related data and reports in the Aptify Association Management System
- Represent ISOC in relevant meetings and forums to advance retention and relationship-building efforts.
- Keep clear and concise records of discussions, ‘pipeline’ and revenue using the Aptify AMS system to ensure accurate forecasting, organization member profiles and planning.
- Work closely and collaboratively with the program departments to develop attractive sponsorship opportunities, and secure appropriate sponsors.
- Work closely with the Communications Department in securing event sponsors.
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree, 5+ years of association, non-profit-related or business-to-business experience; involved with international organizations or companies, preferably in the Internet/telecommunications sectors.
- Extensive experience in marketing, account management and/or customer acquisition. In addition, it is critical that the individual understand the challenges in working with a large and diverse international member base.
- Demonstrated confidence and ability to make the case of the value of our organization to external organizations consistently and convincing.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, fluency (verbal and written) in English. Other language skills highly desirable.
- Experience with preparing and delivering effective presentations.
- Ability to handle and prioritize many projects concurrently, good attention to detail and ability to keep accurate records for reporting using the AMS.
- Strong knowledge of IT, strong computer skills and familiarity with electronic communication applications and tools absolutely essential.

- Must have the proven track record of quickly gaining and keeping the trust of organization executives in an international context.
- Strong desire and ability to work in a team environment. Demonstrated experience in cross-cultural environments and effectiveness in managing collaborations between individuals with diverse professional backgrounds.
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 25% of the time.
- Must be currently eligible for employment in Switzerland (no relocation).
