The closing plenary session of the first INET conference serves as the forum for Vint Cerf’s announcement of the Internet Society’s founding, based on a document signed by Vint Cerf, Bob Kahn, and Lyman Chapin. In his remarks, Cerf also announces that the INET Conferences will henceforth be conducted under Internet Society auspices and become the forum for the Internet Society's annual meetings, with the next one to take place in Kobe, Japan. An oral history of the Internet Society's founding, as remembered by Cerf, Kahn, Chapin, and many of the original Board members can be found here.
